Boitumelo Tshabalala, professionally known as Tumi Musiq, is a South African DJ, producer, and songwriter from Katlehong in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng. Raised in a community with a strong appreciation for house music and emerging urban sounds, he developed an early interest in music during his teenage years. While still in school, he began exploring music production and learning how to create his own compositions. His curiosity about sound design and arrangement helped shape the artistic foundation that would later define his career.
Tumi Musiq began pursuing music professionally around 2016, initially working within the deep house scene before moving toward the amapiano genre, which was rapidly gaining popularity across South Africa. His early productions introduced listeners to a sound characterized by melodic piano lines, soulful textures, and atmospheric rhythms.
He gained wider attention with the release of “Let It Rain,” a collaboration featuring Mick Man and Artwork Sounds. The track established him as an emerging talent within the country’s electronic music landscape. In the years that followed, he continued to build his reputation through collaborations and performances, including work with artists such as Russell Zuma, Mia, George Lesley, and Jay Sax.
A major milestone in his career came in 2025 when Tumi Musiq signed with Sony Music Entertainment Africa, marking his transition into the global recording industry. Around the same period, he released the single “Thixo Bawo,” further expanding his reach within the amapiano scene.
His discography includes notable works such as “Let It Rain,” “Carry On,” “Chelete,” and “Thixo Bawo.”In 2025, he released his debut studio album, “The Renaissance,”a project that reflects his artistic growth and musical vision.
